We are please to report a grant award to Musical Connections, a York-based charity dedicated to enhancing the lives of older, isolated, and vulnerable individuals through participatory music sessions and intergenerational projects.

Founded in 2009 and becoming a registered charity in 2016, Musical Connections operates ten weekly music groups and community choirs across York. These sessions are held in various venues, including GP surgeries, churches, community centres, local care homes, and sheltered accommodations, providing accessible opportunities for social interaction and musical engagement.

The charity's work has demonstrated significant impact, with over 90% of participants reporting increased happiness, confidence, activity levels, and social connections. Additionally, improvements in physical health, such as better pain management, sleep, and mobility, have been noted among members.

Musical Connections also places a strong emphasis on intergenerational activities, collaborating with local schools, universities, and colleges. These initiatives foster meaningful interactions between different age groups, breaking down generational barriers and enriching the experiences of both older adults and younger participants.

We are proud to support Musical Connections in their mission to empower individuals to lead happier, healthier lives through music. This grant reflects our commitment to funding local charities that make a tangible difference in the York community
