We are pleased to announce a grant award to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is an independent, registered charity providing a lifesaving, rapid response emergency medical service to over 5.4 million people across the 3 million acres of Yorkshire.
The two air ambulances and Critical Care Teams of advanced trauma paramedics and consultant doctors are on standby 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The helicopters can access gridlocked motorways and hard to reach, isolated locations such as beaches, cliff tops and moorlands. This can be especially vital in the summer when the tourist population in parts of the region increases significantly, as is the case in York.
Emergency 999 calls are monitored in real time and as a result either of the air ambulances can be airborne within 3 minutes of a call.
The helicopters can therefore be on scene anywhere within Yorkshire within 20 minutes effectively bringing hospital A&E intensive care to critically injured/sick patients at the scene. The Topcliffe airbase, near Thirsk, covers the York area, so the air ambulance is only a few minutes’ flight away when needed.
